Through intense play and in-depth physical analysis, we will explore what is uniquely, genuinely, ridiculously funny about each of us, and how to express that on stage through the red nose, the smallest mask in the world.
This exploration involves looking in detail at each students’ rhythms and dynamics of movement. It involves curiosity, listening, risk-taking, and bold play, toward the discovery of your own unique comic form through which you can be brilliantly, even poetically, stupid.
About the Instructor
Sarah Liane Foster is a physical actor, clown, mask performer, stilt walker, and teacher. She is recently back from a year of assisting Giovanni Fusetti at his movement theatre school in Florence, Italy, Scuola Internazionale di Creazione Teatrale Helikos, where she will return as an instructor in October. A graduate of Brown University, she has trained in physical theatre and clown at the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre, at the Celebration Barn Theatre, and with Giovanni Fusetti.
As Co-Artistic Director of the Nomadic Theatre Co in Portland, Sarah has created six original, movement-based theatre shows with Nomadic. Her most recent creation is The Last Show You’ll Ever See, a solo clown trombone show about the end of the world, which she has performed in Portland, California, and New York.
Some past students have said:
“It is wonderful to watch how you always seem to know the exact right direction to send your performers to get the most out of them. It is enlightening to discover the different depths within each other and our selves.”
“Inspiring.”
“Your coaching is phenomenal.”
